Charitable Purpose Statement
The purpose of Channel Islands Hydrographic Survey is to advance public knowledge and understanding of the maritime environment by carrying out hydrographic mapping and submarine exploration of the seabed within the territorial waters of the Channel Islands.
This charitable work aims to promote scientific research, environmental protection, and sustainable marine resource management, with the ultimate goal of benefiting the public through the collection, analysis, and dissemination of hydrographic data.
In all our activities, we are committed to operating transparently and inclusively, ensuring that the outcomes of our work are accessible to all, fostering a greater understanding of the region’s maritime environment and encouraging a collective responsibility for its stewardship.
Our activities will include:
- Conducting hydrographic surveys and mapping of the seabed surrounding the Channel Islands, including underwater topography, marine habitats, and maritime heritage resources such as shipwrecks.
- Providing open access to the data collected through public repositories, reports, and educational initiatives to increase awareness of marine science, navigation safety, and the preservation of marine ecosystems.
- Supporting marine conservation efforts, enabling better-informed decision-making for environmental protection and sustainable development in the Channel Islands’ coastal waters.
- Collaborating with government agencies, academic institutions, maritime archaeologists and other organizations to ensure the highest quality of data and promote the use of this information for the benefit of the public, including safer maritime navigation, enhanced marine biodiversity conservation, and improved awareness of the island’s unique maritime heritage.
